Principal's Report
Dear Families,
P&F FUNDRAISERS
A big thank you to all the volunteers and organisers involved in making our Term 1 fundraisers a huge success! The P&F Special Lunch, Hot Cross Bun and Easter Raffle fundraisers helped raise a whopping $1293, which is going straight towards our junior basketball rings. Additionally, proceeds from the Guess the Egg Competition will be donated to the Good Friday Appeal.
Don’t forget that tomorrow afternoon at our end of term assembly we will be drawing the Easter Raffle. Each of the lucky winners will be asked to come and make their selection from the amazing prizes. Thank you again to the P&F for organising and for all those who donated prizes! Assembly starts at 1:50pm.
P&F WELCOME PICNIC
What a wonderful afternoon we had last Friday at the Welcome Picnic. We could not have asked for better weather, as so many families took the opportunity to come along and enjoy a picnic and a chat. The Tug of War provided an extra layer of fun, and the spread of food was incredible and very much appreciated by all. Thank you to the P&F and families for all food contributions. It was a truly wonderful event.
REGIONAL SWIMMING
Congratulations to Brianna (Year 6), who represented Wallington Primary School in the Regional Swimming this week. What an amazing achievement to reach this stage of the competition, let alone succeed as she did. You have done us all proud! See ‘Physical Education News’ below for more information.
SCHOOL COUNCIL PRESIDENT
As announced at last week’s assembly, I wish to introduce this year’s School Council President, Anthony Sheedy. Anthony has written the following to introduce himself and key roles of the council:
My name is Anthony SHEEDY, I am new to the Wallington Primary School community and wanted to support the school in any way I could. This has led me to the privilege of serving as School Council President. I thought it would be a great opportunity to introduce myself, and the elected school council as a whole, in this newsletter and look forward to working with you in support of our school community here at Wallington Primary School. I'm excited to share our plans and initiatives for the coming year and encourage your engagement and feedback.
Here's a glimpse of what we're focusing on:
Strategic Planning:
We're committed to developing and monitoring the school's annual implementation plan, ensuring it aligns with our vision and values. With this valuing the opportunity to assist all students for best possible outcomes.
Policy Development:
We'll continue to review and update policies to support the school's direction and create a positive learning environment for all students.
Community Engagement:
We value your input and welcome your participation in School Council meetings and other events. We will have some exciting events at Wallington Primary this year, especially as we plan to run the Strawberry Fair in the latter part of this year.
Financial Oversight:
We're responsible for overseeing the school's budget, ensuring responsible financial management.
Supporting Staff:
We work closely with the principal and staff to provide the best possible environment for student learning and teaching staff.
Our Vision:
We aim to create a happy, vibrant, productive, and diverse school where children feel safe and supported. Together with our 'why' statement, our foundation for learning at Wallington Primary.
“To grow, inspire and empower an inclusive community where students develop a strong sense of belonging, identity and purpose so that they become inquisitive, engaged and connected contributors to society.”
Get Involved:
Would you like to see what we do at School Council Meetings? Observers are welcome to attend School Council meetings by request.
Contact me or any other School Council members with your ideas and suggestions. The more input, the better!
Volunteer your special skill or time in support of our school events/initiatives.
I am really looking forward to a productive and collaborative year.
THANK YOU & HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Well done to all students on their efforts throughout the term. At Wallington, we make sure we take every opportunity to have fun with our learning and this term has been no exception!
I would like to take the opportunity to extend my appreciation of the dedication and hard work of our staff and of the support from the school community. Your commitment and collaboration ensure that our students have a positive and successful experience at Primary School, as we all work towards modelling our values of responsibility, resilience, and respect.
Our students' enthusiasm and curiosity make our school a truly special place, while the support of families and the broader community strengthens our shared commitment to learning and growth. We are grateful for everyone’s contributions in making our school a great place to learn and grow.

Prep - Self-Portrait Collages
Preps have started their year in Art creating self-portrait collages. Using a school uniform template, students explored line, pattern and colour using mixed media over the top. Patterned paper shapes and letters were glued on as additional features of their art work. Well done Preps, you've done such a great job!

Term 1 - 4 weeks of cricket
Prep to Year 2 have been focusing on the fundamental skills included in cricket, they have taken part in stations to learn different throws, catches and movement skills. They then use these skills they have learnt in a modified game!
Year 3 - 6 have been also focusing on cricket this term, they have learnt bowling, batting, aiming at the wickets and fielding skills. We celebrated this by playing a game using Vic school rules to prepare them for inter school cricket next year! Some of the Year 3-6 students proved me wrong by bowling a cricket ball at a tiny target in the wicket to force me to buy them a chocolate bar!
A huge congratulations to Brianna who swam at the Western Region swimming sports in Geelong this week. Brianna swam multi-class and got a first and two seconds.
For her first place in Breast stroke she will now go onto the Schools Victoria State Champs in Melbourne.
Well done Brianna for your amazing achievements!

Wellbeing at Wallington
The Easter bunny arrived at Wallington P.S. today, and will be visiting again tomorrow!!
Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities.
Congratulations to everyone for making it to the end of Term 1! Now is a great time to reflect on something you are proud of your child for achieving so far this year. Maybe it’s for starting their first (or last!) year of primary school or that they’ve challenged themselves to try new things.
Is the thing you’re proud of the same thing your child is proud of?
This week's activity involves trying a guided breathing exercise and then designing your own. Your child might be familiar with box breathing or five finger breathing as some classes use it as a regulation technique or brain break. It might be a handy technique to try during tense moments in the holidays!
Our last breakfast club for Term 1 went well this morning. Warm toast was much appreciated at the start of a chilly day. Our Principal Mr Edwards popped along to say hi to our students.
Thankyou to Ms Cook and our Year 6 students for helping make Breakfast Club a huge success.
Happy Easter!
